In the past, I tried writing up some story summaries of Dungeons & Dragon campaigns I've been a part of. I stopped doing them because as soon as I got one written up it seemed like the campaign would start falling apart the very next week due to schedule conflicts or other people no longer being interested in playing that campaign XD I've got quite the collection of characters at this point, and I adore them all. I'd like to share them still in some way, so I found this really nice avatar maker here. With it, I've made all of my characters save for one, who can't be made with that maker as she's a dragon. Below is the rest of my collections of lovelies (^^) They're listed in the general order of their creation.
Lyall Blakely
Half-Elven Battle Master Fighter, archery based
My very first D&D character, Lyall was raised by his human mother. Her parents enjoyed the act of making children, but not caring for the children they created. As such, Lyall has a large collection of aunts and uncles who hate their neglectful birthgivers. None of them he has met as his mother ran away from home when she was a teenager. She lived on the streets until she was an adult. At that point, she started working at a brothel, which was a respectful establishment that treated her fairly. His mother actually enjoyed her work and the people she met. However, she felt she could not tell her family as her parents would think of her as even more of a failure. This meant it would be difficult to explain Lyall's existence without revealing how she came to be with an elven man. It was at the brothel, of course, where she met Lyall's elven father. Frustrated by his parents' insistence that he marry a woman he did not love, Lyall's father took off from home to find something rebellious he could do to really make his parents pissed. The idea he came up with was to visit a brothel. Despite the brothel's measures to prevent pregnancy, Lyall's mother became pregnant.
Having calmed down, returned home, and now being sent out as an envoy to deliver a message to a distant noble, Lyall's father revisited the town with the brothel to find the woman he slept with was pregnant. Cowardly and embarrassed, he simply gave her money and told her to request more if she ever needed. Then he left to finish his task. Lyall's mother moved to a new town where she got a more common job. Lyall was eventually born, and his father visited him shortly after his birth. He could not bring himself to ever visit again even though he desperately cared for his son and found himself more at peace with his son's mother than any other woman he had met. News of his human born son got around in his community, and remaining too weak of heart it was easier to ignore what he'd done than stand up to those who belittled what he loved. Lyall and his mother lived a simple and modest life. Lyall made a good friend with a merchant's daughter, Bayram, and was taught the way of many weapons by a retired captain of the army. He uses his skill to help those who had once been weak like him as well as to provide a better life for his mother. Lyall pretends to care nothing for his father, but he intensely wishes to meet him and have a relationship with him.
Emlin Olir
Elven Life Cleric, servant of Pelor
Like the rest of her siblings, Emlin was named in honor of a bird- her name meaning 'Song of the Canary.' She and her family grew up in the great northern forest where her parents were high ranking members of the guild that controlled the land. Many guilds existed in the continent Emlin called home, and they ruled as governments. Some were large. Some were small. Some were righteous. Some were not. The guild controlling the forest allowed their people to live peacefully. Emlin served dutifully under her parents' shadows learning as much as she could and training to constantly improve herself. However, Emlin wanted greatness. If she remained at home, she would forever be comfortable. Things would be too easy due to the path ahead already having been carved out. The only way to continue to better herself was to leave. Emlin's brother remained at home to carry the family's legacy while Emlin and her sister took off to new lands and new guilds. Incredibly close yet competitive with each other, the sister's were curious to see how they could influence and raise those around them to be higher. They look forward to the day where they can compare and see what the other has accomplished.
Laurel Merenhi
Human Oath of the Ancients Paladin, servant of Anagenessi
Laurel has no idea what her original family was like, what her true name is, or what she's even meant to really look like. Born with albinism to parents who were slaughtered in a raid by marauding cultists, the newborn Laurel was found hidden away in the rubble that remained of her small hometown. The lone survivor, Laurel was raised by the people who found her- a middle aged elven couple and their son belonging to a nomadic group who traveled the many lands. She grew up adoring her close community of about fifty, mainly made up of elves and half-elves. The nomads did not rebuke society or the comforts of a stable home. They simply loved exploring more. Laurel loved it too, and she loved most the brilliant stars at night that she studied with great fervor.
Unfortunately, a close repeat of her past would come to nearly steal away her new life. Savage cultists serving the god of war and bloodshed attacked her peaceful people. Several of those she considered dear friends were quickly slaughtered, and all lives would have been lost had it not been for the paladins of Anagenessi, the goddess of hope and rebirth, coming to their aid. Sent to defend Laurel's people through divine foresight, Anagenessi's servants easily dispatched of the cultists to save the remaining nomads. Grateful and in awe of the might, power, and countenance of the leader of the paladins, Laurel decided to leave with them and study in the city of divine beings. She rose through their ranks to where she now is sent out on missions not so dissimilar to the one that saved her life and the lives of her family. Laurels hopes to do enough to repay the paladins one day and wishes to protect as many as she can.
Niao
Human Arcane Trickster Rogue
True to her class, not much is known about Niao's past. She claims her proper name is Ju Dee, and that Niao, which means 'bird', is her performance name. An acrobat, she earned the name as her tricks and flips made it appear as if she could fly. For an acrobat though, she has unusual skills with lock picking, daggers, and stealth. Niao simply says she learned the art of a weapon and the art of silence in order to protect herself as she has lived on the streets since she was a child. As for picking locks, well, her father a was locksmith. Supposedly.
Mimina Timbers
Gnome Wild Magic Sorcerer
Mimina really has no idea what's going on with her magical powers. Her mother, coming back from visiting distant family, went into an early labor on the trek home. She found shelter in a hidden cave in the mountains. Worried that her child was being born a little too early, Mimina's mother was astounded when her daughter came out entirely developed. The two made it home safely where everyone remarked on the strangeness of the situation, but passing time brought it to the back of their minds. However, when Mimina was a young child she felt an intense lure that had her sneaking out in the dead of night to an unknown destination. She met no dangers despite the days it took her to make the journey, and she knew when she found herself in a cave in the mountain that this was where she had been born. Bizarre runes appeared, which then began to glow and spin. Mimina doesn't remember much of what happened after that, but she believes she entered a trance where the power of the cave consumed her. She returned home to her worried family with magical powers she didn't have before. Her entire town has questions of how she got them, but, for some reason, Mimina cannot bring herself to reveal what she experienced.
The strangeness of it all is why Mimina believes she cannot control her unique properly. Though she tries, sometimes things get set on fire, people around her suddenly become drunk, and shimmering butterflies randomly manifest when she casts spells. The people of her forest tell her they understand, yet Mimina feels guilty that she sometimes causes great inconveniences to those around her. That is why she decided to leave home to practice in more forgiving environments in order to master her skill. Unfortunately, things took a twist when a job she accepted ended up getting her killed when a companion slayed a dragon her group was attempting to parlay with. The dragon's mother returned to kill them all. That was not the end of her story, however, as a dragonborn cleric named Serenity resurrected them all where each member of the group was visited by a godly entity who entrusted them with the task of retrieving lost artifacts of theirs and serving as their champion in order to repay them for their second chance at life. Mimina accepted her task, and, after many trials, now is in possession of her designated artifact- the Tome of Insight.
Kirino Yosei
Fog Spirit (Mechanically an Elven Wild Magic Sorcerer)
In the Empire of Stars, mortals share their lands with the many spirits living within. Yosei was born in the eastern province when her mother, the spirit of the local forest, and her father, spirit of the mountains within the forest, created her life energy. Yosei became the spirit of the fog that swirled around the trees and painted the mountain tops. Mortal admirers of the peaceful forest welcomed the ethereal presence of the fog, yet there were some who decided Yosei's birth was a terrible thing. They blamed the young spirit for the death of lost travelers who could not navigate the mists or who were attacked by animal predators using the fog as cover. Twice was Yosei sought out and killed, although her status as a spirit allowed her to be reborn. The multiple killings of their daughter naturally enraged Yosei's parents, and the forest and mountains have become more treacherous than before. Annoyed by having to reform, Yosei began to seek out a way to strengthen herself.
The answer came by the way of Tashi, a spirit recently released by a group called the Wild Cards after thousands of years of entrapment in an orb hidden within an ominous dungeon. Tashi set herself as the queen of spirits, and now has many projects underway to build her power and influence while creating new relationships with the mortals in the empire. To complete all her tasks, Tashi needs many different jobs performed. That is why Yosei eagerly agreed to be grouped together with several other spirits and mortals with spiritual links to adventure and fight to ensure the successful reign of the ambitious queen.
