I thought this would be an interesting extra look into the development of CMW for you all. This was the first structuring of the story I did when I got the idea into my head- long before I created the Sims or did anything else in that regard. These few paragraphs were mostly just me putting the idea onto digital paper so I had a general sense of direction to work with when I did begin working with everything in greater detail. You'll find that things are pretty similar starting out, but towards the ending everything really begins to go in different directions.

Generation One: Ethereal (“Meadow Yonder”)
Color: White
Other Main Characters: Eden Yonder (Green), Blaze Vivid (Red), Amaranth
Vivid (Red)
Plot: In a world full of colorful Sims,
those born pure white are considered treasures. They instantly get ahead in
life due to their lack of color. There are many parents who desire to have a
white child, and one company who focuses on science and medicine has found a
way to make a profit off this desire. They send out a request for sperm and egg
donations using the false pretense of using the donations for study. Their true
intention is to find out which sperm and which eggs have the genetic mutation
for albinism. They will then artificially conceive a child, and use their
technology to modify the genetics so the child is born an albino. The children
are placed inside surrogate mothers already working for the company.
In one rare
case, the samples that come from a married couple both have the mutation. The
scientists use the material from this couple to create what will become an
albino girl called Ethereal. She goes on to become the crucial child for the
project. Many of the other children born have problems caused by the albinism
or the genetic manipulation. Ethereal, however, is incredibly healthy and
suffers from no medical problems. Instead of being sold to a couple through the
black market, she is kept at one of the facilities. She grows up knowing
nothing but the white bedroom that is her cage and the bit of the outside world
tall walls confine her in. Ethereal never questions her world as she knows
nothing else.
The
scientists plan to keep Ethereal in her prison her entire life. As she is
albino, the mutation is more dominant in her than it is in normal Sims. They
know it will be much easier to manipulate strong, albino children from her.
Thus, they plan to have her bear child after child when she gets old enough so
they can have plenty of albino children to sell to couples who are willing to
pay the price for a pure white child. Knowing Ethereal forming connections with
her children will be counter-productive, the scientists do what they can to
stop her from forming emotional connections to anyone while growing up.
A worker
named Eden goes against their plans. Though he is heavily trained in science
and math, Eden prefers the more emotional science of Psychology. His job is to
keep track of and monitor Ethereal’s mental health. Rejecting fully what the
scientists are doing to her and the other children, Eden purposely makes a
strong emotional connection with Ethereal. It is thanks to him she learns how
to connect with another person. However, she still never desires to escape from
her prison. That’s why Eden knows she has to force her out of it. He uses his
connections with a different underground group dedicated to stopping the
inhumane and unethical practices of the company to put everything in place that
will allow him to give Ethereal a chance at a real life.
Ethereal is
surprised one day during her session with Eden when he tells her that she has
to sleep for a while. He sedates her, and the next thing she knows is that she
has woken up in a small, run-down house. Eden won’t let her go outside, but he
reveals what the scientists had planned for her and how he intends to bring
them to justice. Before this though, he injects her with a strange substance―
not clarifying what it is. Eden tells her they will move on to better living
conditions once the substance does its work. After three days of feeling
increasingly strange and hot, Ethereal has a fit when her skin begins to feel
as if it’s on fire. Eden sedates her for the night so the shifting process
won’t be painful. Ethereal wakes up to find out that her skin, hair, and eyes
are the same shade of green as Eden’s. The substance is another top-secret
development made by the company. Eden would have never been able to hide
Ethereal in plain sight if she retained her white coloring, so she had to
change. The shift is not permanent though. Eden must inject her twice a year to
keep up the appearance.
He becomes
her “big brother”, and Ethereal takes on the name “Meadow Yonder.” She and Eden
move to a large city where she is home-schooled while Eden earns money working
online. He says their part in bringing down the company is, for the most part,
done. He is leaving the others to expose and bring the criminals to justice.
The two of them just have to not be caught until that can happen. Ethereal
slowly adjusts to living a normal life, and eventually goes to a public school.
However, the
company does not go down easily. Those trying to bring it down struggle, and
the horrible deeds are allowed to continue. Eden also begins to run out of the
substance keeping Ethereal’s coloring green. An earthquake then shatters what
he has left. He goes into an independent science facility to steal the
materials needed to make more, but is caught and arrested. The group helping
him is sure they can keep him from going to jail. In the meantime, Ethereal is
sent to stay with Blaze and Amaranth Vivid. They are an uncle and nephew whom
Ethereal had known ever since Eden moved her to the city, but she had no idea
they were part of the good group. The two of them had been keeping it a secret
from her so they could more easily protect her. While staying with them, Ethereal’s
soft crush for Amaranth turns into real love. The two become a couple.
Ethereal is
shocked when he and Blaze reveal a massive truth to her though. Eden is actually
her biological brother. Her father, Jungle, had never wanted children, and this
created a huge rift between him and their mother, Field. She had an affair with
another green Sim. For whatever reason, Field was more desperate to stay with
Jungle than she was to keep her baby boy. Jungle convinced her to give Eden up
for adoption. He ended up being placed in foster care instead, and remained in
it his entire time growing up. Field had been willing to meet with him after he
became an adult though. When he got the job working for the bad company, he had
been allowed to see the list of the donators for the albino children. That’s
when he saw that Jungle’s and Field’s donations had been used, and he had a
younger sister being kept prisoner at the facility.
When Eden is
freed, he and Ethereal share a true reunion. Things do not remain peaceful for
long as a member of the bad company finally finds Ethereal. He kidnaps her.
Eden, Blaze, Amaranth, and other members of the good group follow in pursuit.
Ethereal manages to rescue herself. She captures with a sound recorder she
found the kidnapper talking about all the company’s secrets and what they were
doing. After that, she escapes from his clutches. At long last, there is
evidence to bring the bad company down. All the albino children that have been
born are placed into loving homes, Ethereal can be her true color, and she and Amaranth
marry and start a family.
Other Plot Points:
1)
A normal pure white girl transfers to the school
the same year Ethereal starts public school. Her name is Purity Waters, and
nearly everyone begins to fawn over her almost instantly. Ethereal doesn’t get
why everyone treats her as if she’s some sort of higher being. After school,
some of the students remark how lucky Purity will be when she gets to have pure
white children of her own someday. Ethereal then explains how albinism works as
well as how Purity’s children will end up being blue, the color she is supposed
to be. This makes the other children think less of Purity, and Purity takes a
dislike to Ethereal for revealing the truth. She begins to be mean towards her,
saying she’s just envious of her as Ethereal is green― the color of envy.
Ethereal’s time at school becomes more difficult, but she is able to ignore
Purity for the most part. Purity, though arrogant, never really bullies her or
really tries to make her life miserable.
Not to say the ending you went with isn't great, but I would have liked to see Ethereal rescue herself. Then again, you still have nine generations to go so who knows what we'll see.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
And since I always forget to ask, the guy Purity mentioned as liking but knowing he didn't feel the same way was Amaranth, right?
I did try to keep some elements of the idea of Ethereal rescuing herself in there- that part essentially being her recognition of Jac and her well executed steps at convincing him to help her. If I had tried to go with the original plan, The Company would have looked really weak and pathetic after I had talked them up as this great danger. They just wouldn't have been threatening enough, meaning Ethereal did have to have help somewhere in order to get out once I switched things up.
ReplyDeleteAre you around on the official forums too, because I just recently asked if anyone had figured that out XD
Yes, her crush was Amaranth. That was supposed to be another plot- her trying to win his heart, partially because she liked him and partially to make Ethereal miserable. Stuff like her listening to him and not getting mad at him in elementary school was the precursor to it. However, her trying to get him just didn't fit right into the story, so I scrapped it.
I'm on the forums you posted your 100 baby challenge on, not the other one you've mentioned.
ReplyDeleteYou're so good at bringing up plot lines I thought you'd dropped that I was beginning to suspect this was lead up for Gen 2, where Purity tries breaking Ethereal's marriage or something. But yeah, I'd guessed she was into Am, I just wanted to check.
I see what you mean now about Ethereal needing help to escape. That makes sense about the Company's threat level.
Wow that's really interesting.
ReplyDeleteDo you write a few paragraphs like this before the actual writing with all the things you write? (I'm asking as an aspiring writer)
Also I know we'll have generation 2 only in a few weeks and I'm waiting patiently but I wondered if you could share something small with us. Like maybe a name of one of the characters or a random picture? I'm just super curious!
@Cece- That's an interesting coincidence then ^^
ReplyDeleteAnd good guess :D
@Anon- I do usually write something like this with most of my stories. There's almost always too much to simply remember, so giving myself a basic outline to follow as I begin the proper structuring is instrumental in making sure things don't turn into a big mess. Even if it's not in paragraphs, putting key events into a list is just as good. My big thing after that is asking "Why"- for everything. Why is this event happening? Why is this particular character involved? Why do they react like they do? Why do they have certain skills to help them/fears that inhibit them? On and on it goes until its gets to the point where there's not much reason to ask that question anymore. However, even though many of the answers to why will never be seen directly in the story, the more you know about the motivations for everything the more you can add depth naturally as you do have that extensive knowledge to rely on. I find this particularly helpful for side characters whose eyes we don't get to see out of. If you know their story well, you'll find ways to sneak in even through tiny bits of dialogue the moments/reactions of theirs that will help readers connect and understand them as well.
I really want to be cruel and say you'll just have to wait, but I guess I can give you a little something to keep you preoccupied. I'll give you the first letters of the first names of some of the new characters in Gen 2. Maybe you'll be able to guess some of them. Other than this, you guys are just going to have to wait for Gen Two- Chapter One for anything substantial ;D

Wow these are some really good advices, I'll follow them!
ReplyDeleteI have NO idea what the names are lol
Maybe the H is Heart? I don't know I just try to think about red things...
Glad I could help you out in some way ^^
ReplyDeleteYeah, I doubt anyone will really be able to figure them out. It's more for fun to see what people will guess than anything that hints at the cast of Gen 2. Heart is a good guess, but an incorrect one. I will say that some of the names have mentioned somewhere in Gen 1 though ;D Taking a look through the pictures in Chp. 46 also has some clues as to a few of the future couples you will see.
And, in other news, I have both Chapter One and Chapter Two for Gen 2 completed! I've got most of the pictures for Chapter Three, and I've started writing it as well. I'm hoping to have at least 4 chapters done by the time Gen 2 starts. At this point, I'm looking at October 5th for the restart date. I am thinking of waiting just one day extra and releasing it on the 6th though, because October 6th will be the one year anniversary for CMW. Updates would stay on Mondays after that.
Sap and Purity?! I took a look at chp. 46 and it became very clear that Sap and Purity are (or soon to be) dating! I thought we already went down that lane? And don't try denying it, the proof is there. They slow danced with each other and were practically inseparable the entire wedding.
ReplyDelete-Nyrrat
It was only mentioned that Sap's dad wanted them to get together, and not that they had actually started dating though. You are correct, however. They do seem to be very close at the wedding ;D
ReplyDeleteCan't wait till Gen 2! And I am gonna join Nanowrimo too, so I hope we can help keep each other motivated!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am so sorry...I have been searching old chapters, but I can't find where I ask this, so I am sorry again for asking...but...where did you get your guys hair and clothes? Good guy clothes are so hard to find at all...sorry again, I just can't remember when I asked and I didn't fave it. Hope you can tell us what your Nanowrimo story is about!
Wow really? Now I need to think about blue names... Rain? (love that name btw)
