The History of the Elves

The History of the Elves

by Wesley Bales
Mrs. Dawson's 11th Grade AP Pre-United History Class

The origin of both humans and elves is shrouded in mystery. Modern day science has theorized that humans have evolved from an ape-like ancestor millions of years ago. While it is true that archeological evidence has backed the reality that more intelligent and "human-like" apes used to roam the eastern continents, there is much to be questioned about the fact that a gap of over a million years separates those finds from the remains of current day humans. If evolution is at play, how come there is no support to show how we emerged from what was ultimately a common animal? How is it possible to go from apes to humans so abruptly? This question has led many to turn their thoughts to the existence of a god simply placing our race on the world.

Or, I should say it is a goddess some believe to have created the world and its inhabitants. The idea that the omnipotent creator is of womanly form stems from our ancient communication with the elves, for a goddess is what they believe in even to this day. If we say we know little about how we came to be, then it can easily be said that we know nothing about how the elves appeared on this planet. No archeological evidence gives any inclination that the elves evolved from a mere animal. The elves have simply existed in the form in which they have always existed. That they possess the desperately sought after gift of immortality only strengthens the argument of many that the realization of both races stems from the power of an otherworldly being. Perhaps humans once had the full answers to "why" and "how" in the days of our infancy. However, any surety that was gained was lost once the breaking of the peace between the elves and humans began.

Gen One- Chapter Eleven

You would have thought given what I'd been through the past month that Eden would have woken me up a bit nicer. All I knew was that I had been having the best sleep I had had in a long time. It was true I had been feeling better, but I had wanted to guarantee that I would be full of energy for the holiday. That's why Eden got permission for the nurses to give me slightly more medicine than normal and for me to get quite the sleep aid. I was out like a light. I didn't stir once like I normally did. On the flip side of things, the medicine pushed me so far under that when Eden woke me up like he did I was so ridiculously groggy I couldn't even recall why I had been so determined to have the extra dosage at all.

"Wake up. Wake up! C'mon, stop sleeping!" Eden prodded as he shook me without notice.

I blinked blearily.

"Leave me alone." I mumbled, lazily pushing him away.
"Nope," Eden protested, nearly squishing me as he half laid on me, "No sleeping in today."
     "Why not?" I asked unenthusiastically.
"Seriously? It's Christmas! No one sleeps in on Christmas."
"I beg to differ." I mumbled again.

I shifted under Eden's weight so I could breathe better. Did he not remember that the whole reason I was in the hospital was because my lungs weren't cooperating with me? Suffocating me wasn't going to help him get what he wanted.

"You're no fun at all," Eden pouted, "You're the kid here. You're the one who is supposed to be bouncing all over the walls in excitement while I'm the one who is supposed to be annoyed at you for waking me up. This situation is all backwards."
     "Don't care. Sleep."
"You really don't care?" Eden asked suspiciously, "I wonder what I'm going to do then. I have this big present being brought in for you downstairs, but if you don't get up soon you're going to miss the chance to get it entirely."

I studied him as I cracked one of my eyes open.

     "How big?" I asked.

Eden smirked widely.

"It's big. Trust me." he promised.
"Fine. Just get off me so I can breathe, and I'll get up."
"Whoops. Forgot about that." Eden grinned goofily.

He sat up and helped me out of bed.

100 Majesties- A 100 BC Update #17

Despite Isaiah, Errol, and Trevor being Ella's third set of triplets, the task of caring for three babies at once hadn't really gotten easier for the poor mother. She did get a bit more sleep than she had in the past thanks to the help of her older children, but that didn't change the fact that she was up all night tending to her crying boys. Ella attempted to get them on some sort of schedule. It didn't work in the slightest. For a difficult two whole Sim days, she had to contend with their random and unpredictable needs.

Gen One- Chapter Ten

I don't know where I am.

I thought I had been following the road that led north out of Berrybrook. With the rest of the borders hitting the sea, it was my only way out of the city. However, there was no way for me to tell which direction I was heading anymore. I didn't have the strength to look up. My head hung as my body steadily drooped closer and closer to the ground. White snow was all I could see. Even my feet were lost to me with the deep snow easily suffocating my poor slippers. Part of me began to wonder if I was moving at all. Every inch of a step I took made it feel like I was walking through nearly hardened cement. The trees never appeared to move. There was no way for me to know if I was making any progress because my sight was so blurry it was if I had water dancing in my eyes.

Gen One- Chapter Nine

I didn't know which way was up.

One moment, I was watching the snowball Amaranth threw rush at me. The next, all I could see was the sky. Then I'm blinded by the powdery, deep snow that flies around me as I fall into it. I had tried to prevent my falling, but the ground was slippery. My feet being buried so deeply also meant I hadn't been able to move them fast enough to steady myself. I wasn't hurt, of course. There was too much to cushion me. However, that didn't mean I was alright with the situation.

100 Majesties- A 100 BC Update #16

Ella threw a combination gift giving and birthday party in order to celebrate Madeline's, Cecil's, and Luther's birthday. She invited over as much of her family as possible along with a certain Tyrian Thistle. He was eager to attend. As perceptive as ever, Elwood knew exactly what was going on in his sister's head when she snuck a glance at her purple visitor.

Gen One- Chapter Eight

After sliding my boots onto my feet, I eagerly hopped off my bed. Today had been a good day so far. Cold and rain had been predicted, but it was turning out to be bright, sunny, and much warmer than the days past. Summer had transitioned into autumn harshly, so it was nice to have the opportunity of more comfortable weather. What was even better- Sunset was coming over. I loved that she lived right across the street. We were able to pop over to the other's house pretty much whenever we wanted. Mr. and Mrs. Glory didn't mind if I showed up unannounced. Mr. Glory liked having me over because I eagerly listened to his stories, and Mrs. Glory was always willing to challenge me to a bout of video games. In fact, last week they even told me I could go ahead and think of their house as my house too.

I hurriedly left my room. I had gone to look out one of the windows on the front side of the house. Sunset had waved back to me from behind one of the windows at her house. That was the signal that she was just about to head over. Heck, by them time I went down the stairs she would probably be in the yard already.

"Ethereal, can you come here for a moment?"

Eden's voice called to me from his room.

"I'm going downstairs to meet Sunset." I told him.
"I know, but I don't want to put this off. I swear it will only take a second."
