Gen One- Chapter Twenty Nine

I couldn't believe how hot it was. Though it was almost the beginning of autumn, summer was hanging around with a vengeance. The temperatures had barely dipped at all, and the pounding sun was as intense as ever. If it hadn't been for the plethora of clouds blocking out those glaring rays and the constant breeze, I never would have stuck around at the festival for as long as I did. I had already had a long day, and making myself collapse from heat stroke wasn't a pleasant idea. Thankfully, that heat was bearable enough. There were plenty of cool treats around in addition to the clouds and the wind to combat it. I made my way over to the snow cone machine as soon as it was open. Normally I went with a rainbow mix, but I decided to do something different. I went with plain blue raspberry instead.

Gen One- Chapter Ten

I don't know where I am.

I thought I had been following the road that led north out of Berrybrook. With the rest of the borders hitting the sea, it was my only way out of the city. However, there was no way for me to tell which direction I was heading anymore. I didn't have the strength to look up. My head hung as my body steadily drooped closer and closer to the ground. White snow was all I could see. Even my feet were lost to me with the deep snow easily suffocating my poor slippers. Part of me began to wonder if I was moving at all. Every inch of a step I took made it feel like I was walking through nearly hardened cement. The trees never appeared to move. There was no way for me to know if I was making any progress because my sight was so blurry it was if I had water dancing in my eyes.

Prologue

There isn't a whole lot of color in my world.

There's some blue and bits of brown and black, but otherwise white and green is all I'm surrounded by. It has always been that way as well- just as this place is all I have ever known.

The scientists tell me I'm ten-years-old, so ten years is how long I've lived here. I know there's a world beyond the massive white walls that keep me in my yard, but I don't know anything about it. I've never bothered to ask any questions. I don't really care. That world is not my world. I'll never be a part of it, so why should I get all worked up about something that has no impact on me? Besides, I like where I'm at now. I have a nice room with everything I could want. The yard the scientists say was constructed especially for me is so big, and it has many things for me to play on. Why would I ever want to leave?
